Charitable Focus
Each summit will also have a charitable focus. Joe and the kids and I all put a lot of time into praying and thinking about what charity we would focus on. We bounced around between water projects, schools in Dar Es Salaam and other great causes. We settled on the at risk boys at the school in Manyoni because we feel our efforts stand the greatest chance of making a significant difference there.
Goal
When Joey was ten he climbed Mt. Whitney in a day. A few days after that accomplishment, he set the goal to be the youngest person to climb the 7 summits. This was in September of 2008, before anyone had heard of Jordan Romero.
I ignored his goal for as long as I could, hoping he'd move on. After three months of him maintaining a constant focus as well as what I felt was a nudge from God, I told Joey "I'll at least help you research it and take a step in that direction."
Today the goal is to have more moments like the one in the video above and to have our successes serve others.
